Third Place Confirmed after Draw

Posted by admin On April - 28 - 2012

A 1-1 draw away to Warrenpoint on the last day of the season was enough to
see Institute secure third place, after Bangor lost at Limavady. The first
half reflected much of the season, with the home side taking the lead on 23
minutes against the run of play. Despite good chances for McCready and
McLaughlin, Stute were unable to get back into the game before half-time.
However 15 minutes into the second half the visitors had the equaliser they
deserved – Sean Roddy taking advantage of some poor goalkeeping to head his
side level. Stute were only denied a win through great saves which kept out
McCready and McCrudden, but in the end the point was enough to finish third.

Institute 1-0 Dergview

Posted by admin On April - 21 - 2012

Institute finished their home campaign on a winning note and remain in the hunt for 3rd place thanks to an early Aaron McEnuff strike. It was all Stute in the opening exchanges. The only goal came on 14 minutes when a long Sean Roddy throw in the corner was flicked on and McEnuff met it with a great volley. After this the home side sat back and Dergview came more into the game. The second half was a scrappy affair, with the visitors missing two great changes to get back into the game. First ex-Stute player Andrew Sproule saw his one-on-one chance blocked by Corey Wilson, and then his strike partner blazed a great chance over the goal. Stute managed to hold on to their one goal lead and can still finished 3rd depending on other results next week.

Institute 3-2 Tobermore

Posted by admin On April - 14 - 2012

Stute won their penultimate home game 3-2 in a very end of season affair with a few changes to the Stute playing personel. The Stute started brightly with the busy Sean McCarron looking lively. Tobermore themselves could have taken an early lead when a through ball over the top caught out Stute’s new defensive pairing for the day namely John Curran and Graeme Taylor but the recalled Corey Wilson did well to keep out Lamont’s drive from 14 yards.
